The Swiss Bass Michael Leibundgut has established himself as a specialist in contemporary music, especially with the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen: In 2011 he made his debut in SUNDAY from LIGHT at Oper Köln (La Fura dels Baus), in 2012 in WEDNESDAY at Birmingham Opera (Graham Vick) and in 2013 in SATURDAY with the concert series Musica Viva and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under Ingo Metzmacher. He also sang HAVONA (14th hour of KLANG) at the Musiktriennale Köln.
Michael Leibundgut's season 2013-14 began with his US debut in the world premiere of Enjott Schneider's "Robert Schumanns Traumreise" at Symphony Space in New York with Yvonne Troxler's Glass Farm Ensemble. Later he returned to the Festival Maggio Musicale Fiorentino for the revival of "La Metamorfosi "by Silvia Colasanti and to Teatro La Fenice as Father Trulove in The Rake's Progress. In previous seasons Michael Leibundgut made important debuts at the Lucerne Festival in Georg Friedrich Haas' opera Nacht, at the Festival Musica Strasbourg in Benedict Mason's ChaplinOperas (with the Ensemble Modern under Franck Ollu). He appeared at Teatro La Fenice in Luigi Nono's Intolleranza 1960 under the baton of Lothar Zagrosek, and premiered operas by Gregory Vajda ("Zauberberg", Davos Festival), Luca Mosca ("Signor Goldoni", Teatro La Fenice), Aureliano Cattaneo ("La philosophie dans le labyrinthe", with the Klangforum Wien) and Andrea Lorenzo Scartazzini ("Wut", Theater Erfurt).
